How to Get Your Furniture Into a Top-Floor Apartment

Do you live in an apartment? Millions of people worldwide call apartments home, and for many, they offer a convenient and luxurious lifestyle. If you want to live in the inner city without the massive price tag a house or townhouse requires, an apartment is a great compromise. If your apartment is close to your work - even better. Some folks who live in apartments don’t need cars either, as everything is within walking distance or a short trip on public transport. Combine this ease of living with the low-maintenance lifestyle apartment living offers, and you’re on to a good thing.

Yet apartment living has some challenges, including minimal storage space and nearby noise. Also, getting furniture into an apartment is tricky, especially if you live on the top floor of even the best apartment building. Fear not, though, because this helpful article will share how you can get your furniture into a top-floor apartment. Read on to discover more.

Consider Sectional Furniture

Did you know you can buy a Sectional Sofa? These are comfortable, stylish and luxurious pieces of modular and sectional furniture, so they can be easily disassembled and reassembled. This means that if you live in a top-floor apartment, you can quickly get a sectional sofa into your apartment using the lift by taking a few trips. Other items of furniture can be sectional as well, such as armchairs. Consider sectional or modular furniture for easy transport and installation when shopping for new furniture.

Utilise the Freight Elevator

Some apartment buildings have special elevators bigger than those you use to get to your apartment, sometimes called freight or utility elevators. These are used by residents when they move in or out of apartments. As they’re bigger, they can usually fit most items of furniture, such as beds, couches, tables, shelving and cabinets. If you’re unsure if your apartment block has one of these special elevators, contact the building manager or owner’s corporation representative and enquire about it.

Disassemble Items Before Moving Them

Suppose you’re buying second-hand furniture from an online seller, friend, or family member. In that case, you may have to disassemble the item to get it to your top-storey apartment. If you do this - here’s a tip. Take a photo of each stage as you disassemble it, so you can easily reference the photo when you get the pieces upstairs and come to put it back together. Also, take some small zip lock baggies to put screws, bolts, nuts and other small attachments in so they don’t get lost as you transport them back to your apartment.

Engage a Professional Removalist Company

Suppose you’re moving into a top-floor apartment. In that case, you can ensure everything you need to bring along makes it there safely and efficiently by engaging a professional removalist company. The crew they send will be experiencing moving furniture into and out of all residences, from houses to multi-storey apartments. The removalists can liaise with the apartment manager to ensure a smooth, painless moving day. This will definitely cost some money, but it will save a significant headache you might get if you attempt to move everything yourself. Sometimes it’s better to spend the money and avoid the stress.

Use a Trolley

You don’t want to carry heavy furniture items up the stairs or even to the elevator of your apartment building. You can risk strain or injury this way, even if you get a few people to help with the lifting. You should use a moving trolley, sometimes called a dolly, to assist you with getting your items to the top floor. You can buy them because they’re helpful to have lying around, and you can loan them to friends or family when they move. Alternatively, you could hire one or borrow one from someone you know. Using a trolley will make moving the furniture so much easier. A bonus tip is to use some straps to affix the item in place on the trolley so that it won’t fall off if you make a mistake when moving it.

Slide Items Along Carpet

If you don’t have a hardwood floor, once you’ve got an item of furniture into your entryway, you can slide it along the floor to move it into the room. For instance, you can push a chest of drawers from the hallway into your bedroom. However, this is only possible if you have a carpeted floor. Doing this on a hardwood floor will scratch the floor, so don’t do this if you have timber, engineered or floating floorboards.

A Savvy Summary

This helpful article has shared how to get furniture into a top-floor apartment. Sectional furniture is an excellent choice if you live on the top floor. Still, there are other methods, such as using the freight or utility elevator, engaging professional removalists or disassembling and reassembling the items.
