Amy Gerard's Top Tips to Decorating Your Tree this Christmas

  • Written by The Times

Tip 1: Start with the Perfect Tree

  • Skip the frustration of tangled lights by investing in a Balsam Hill Christmas tree with built in lights. With this, you never have to wrestle with tangled lights again and can straight away  begin adding ornaments like icing on a cake!

Tip 2: Curate Your Own Colour Palette

  • Choose a colour palette that resonates with your personal style and the mood you want to create. Whether you're drawn to traditional reds and greens, icy blues, or a more modern metallic scheme, sticking to a well-thought-out theme of colours will help create a cohesive and elegant look that matches your living space. Layering your decorations for depth also adds a festive dimension to your tree, making it feel like a stylish fashion statement.

Top 3: Mix Ornament Sizes and Textures

  •  For visual difference, mix up the sizes and shapes of your ornaments. A mix of large statement pieces and smaller, delicate decorations creates balance and intrigue on your tree. Don't forget to incorporate different textures—glossy, matte, and even fabric ornaments—ensuring your tree shines in a variety of ways.

Tip 4: Make It a Family Affair

  • Allow your children to add their own unique touch by decorating the tree with their favourite ornaments. After you've done most of the work, give them the chance to place their creations on the tree. It's a fun tradition that adds a personal, sentimental touch to the décor.

Tip 5: Perfect the Details

  •  Once the little ones have stepped away, you can discreetly "adjust" their placements (we all know it's tempting 😉). And don't forget the final, crowning touch—a star on top of your tree. It's the cherry on top of your holiday masterpiece!
