A Quick Guide to Buying D Batteries in Bulk

  • Written by NewsServices.com

If you have high-drain devices running on D batteries, it's important to have reserves at home. This is why you should consider buying bulk batteries.

Not only will it help you save money, but it also prevents the need to take multiple trips to the store.

Here’s a quick guide to buying D batteries in bulk.

What's a D Battery?

In terms of battery sizes, the D type is bigger than the usual AA and AAA batteries.

The measurements range from:

  • Length - 58 to 61.5 mm

  • Diameter - 33 to 34.2 mm

  • Weight - 160 to 180 grams

It's also cylindrical in size, which makes it larger than the C battery, too.

Because of their high performance, D batteries are often used in flashlights, transmitters, receivers, and paper towel dispensers.

D Battery Types

There are two types of D batteries:

Primary Batteries

These are single-use batteries, meaning when they're out of juice, you need to dispose of them.

Primaries are usually made from the following materials:

  • Alkaline batteries. This type, which has a voltage of 1.5, uses zinc and manganese oxide electrodes.

  • Lithium batteries. As the name suggests, it uses lithium-ion to power remote controls and other low-drain devices. Like most batteries in this list, it also holds a voltage of 1.5.

  • Zinc Carbon batteries. This 1.5-volt, dry cell model uses the reaction between zinc and manganese to create power.

  • Lithium Iron Disulfide batteries. This type contains a non-aqueous solution to power devices. They're able to withstand temperatures ranging from -40°C up to +60°C.

Rechargeable Batteries

If you find a single-use battery wasteful, then you should go for batteries that require recharging.

Alkaline and Lithium batteries, such as the ones above, come in rechargeable options. However, the more popular ones continue to be Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) and Nickel Cadmium (NiCad).

  • NiMH Rechargeable Batteries

These have a higher capacity than NiCad at 2200 to 12000 milliamp-hours (mAh.) That means they give your other devices a longer run time.

NiMH batteries don't suffer from memory effect. This happens when the battery cannot get a full juice even if it's plugged on the charger for a long time.

  • NiCad Batteries

While NiMH is a great choice, NiCad has its own set of benefits as well.

Even if it only has a battery power of 2000 to 5000 mAh, it fares better in extreme temperatures. That said, it's perfect for a device outside the home, like security alarms and doorbells.

NiCad also has a lower cost. However, you also need to consider the price of chargers since you have to pay for them separately.

Why You Need to Buy D-Size Batteries in Bulk

There are many benefits to buying new batteries in sizeable quantities:

Great Prices

Just like buying in a wholesale warehouse, customers get to save a lot when they purchase batteries in quantities.

Take the case of a 2-pack, D-size Energizer battery, which retails for $9.90. You can get a pack of 12 for only $30.89!

Preparedness

Say your house is up for an inspection. Just when you thought everything would be fine, your smoke alarm loses power.

You can go to the store, but it's so far away. You won't arrive in time for the inspection!

Imagine if you have a spare battery at hand. All you need to do is replace the old battery, and voilathe device is up and running once again!

The bottom line is buying a battery set will do more good than harm. It's a sign of preparedness, especially during untimely emergencies.

Long Storage Period

Quality batteries will maintain their power even after prolonged storage. In fact, new, unused alkaline batteries have a shelf life of five to ten years.

Rechargeable batteries, on the other hand, can maintain optimum performance for up to five years.

Given these shelf lives, you don't have to worry about stocking up. You can store more than just D batteries, though. You can purchase sets of AA batteries and AAA batteries, too!

Both rechargeable batteries tend to self-discharge when stored. As such, it's essential to place them in a non-metal container in a cool, dry place.

Faster Checkout

You don't have to shop at an electronics store to get your hands on a battery set. It's easy to find a website that offers a great deal online!

There's also a wide selection of batteries, which means you're sure to find your brand of choice. And since you buy them in sets, you can get them at a lower price.

Final Thoughts

Money is definitely hard to come by. It pays to be wise when it comes to battery shopping. It's good to buy in higher quantities, mainly because of the low cost.

A quality battery can be stored for several years, so it can power your devices for the years to come.

Best of all, there's no need to drive to the store! You can buy various brands online and even get them with free shipping.
