Adelaide Plumber Teaches How to Clear a Blocked Drain

  • Written by NewsServices.com

Of all the reasons out there to call a trustworthy plumber, a blocked drain is most certainly the most common. From water that won’t drain to bad smells, blocked sinks are a massive problem for people all over Australia. When these issues are left to get worse, life can get harder for you very quickly.

If you suspect that a blocked drain is causing you issues, the good news is that you may be able to clear it by yourself. Check out these tips to clear a blocked drain.

How to Clear a Blocked Drain

The way you clear your blocked drain depends a lot on what is actually causing the blockage. There are many different remedies for you to choose from. Sometimes, you may have to try them all to clear the blockage.

Failing that, a plumber will need to come out to you.

Boiling Water

Boiling water is a very useful way to clear blocked drains that have been caused by toiletries, grease, and even conditioner. This is because of the fact that all of these products have a very low melting point. This means that extreme heat helps them break down.

All you need to do is boil the kettle and pour it down to hopefully clear the blockage.

Natural Cleaners

You can use some natural cleaners to help break the blockages apart. Try pouring the hot water down the drain, follow it with bicarbonate of soda, and chase it with a cup of vinegar.

Then, leave it for ten minutes and chase it with more hot water.

Caustic Cleaners

While caustic cleaners need to be used sparingly, they can take action against tougher blockages. Make sure you follow the instructions on the packet to clear the blockage safely.

Plunger

Plungers are a simple yet greatly effective tool to break down blockages. It can force them out of the place they’re stuck.

DIY Drain Snake

You can use any thin metal wire, such as a coat hanger, to make a drain snake. Try using it to fish out and break down any blockages.

Plumbers Drain Snake

Plumber’s drain snakes are impressive tools that should only be used by professionals. These tools are very helpful for difficult clogs that other methods cannot tackle.

CCTV

When the other options don’t work, a CCTV is a great way to find out where the clog is and how bad it is. It helps you create a plan to remove it.

Hydro Jet

A hydro jet is an intense and sharp burst of water that removes blockages from pipes. It is a great way to remove the bulk of the blockage.

Excavation

If the blockage is severe, excavation may be your only option. The drain will need to be dug around to repair and replace the necessary pipework.

Pipe Relining

When your pipes have become damaged as a result of the blockage, relining may be your best option. It is an efficient way to get rid of the blockage.

The Bottom Line

If none of these options work, make sure that you speak to a professional and licensed plumber as soon as possible as severe blockages can cause a lot of damage.
