NAGNATA: ‘FUTURE = FIBRE’ — Movement 21 at AFW 2026

On Day 3 of Australian Fashion Week 2026, the energy at the runway shifted from the high-octane glamour of opening night to something more grounded and intentional. Entering the space for NAGNATA’s Movement 21, ‘FUTURE = FIBRE,’ it was clear that sisters Laura May and Hannah Gibbs weren’t just presenting a collection; they were sharing a philosophy.
The runway was strikingly minimalist, framed by raw, industrial fibre bales that served as a silent tribute to the source of every garment.
This backdrop reinforced the brand’s founding mantra: Movements Not Seasons. By rejecting the traditional fashion calendar, NAGNATA focuses on the "honesty of material," merging the natural properties of organic, renewable fibres with high-end technical innovation.
Standing lens-side, I was struck by the tactile richness of the knitwear. My photography for this show sought to capture how these pieces respond to the human form in motion. The palette was a sophisticated blend of earth-bound ochres, deep burgundies, and a sharp, electric cobalt blue that felt incredibly modern.
These styles are neither exclusively masculine nor feminine; they are staples of a universal uniform designed to be shared and lived in. Seeing these fluid silhouettes on the runway underscores the brand’s commitment to inclusivity and community.
From the quilted textures of their technical outerwear to the fine-gauge knits that blur the lines between yoga studio and evening street style, ‘FUTURE = FIBRE’ proves that sustainability is not a constraint; it is a creative catalyst. NAGNATA continues to challenge industry standards, reminding us that our responsibility as consumers begins with a respect for the planet and ends with the art of movement.
