America’s iconic rivers on new music-themed river cruise

  • Written by Andrew Mevissen

Put on your dancing shoes and rock’n’roll down America’s iconic rivers of rhythm on a new music-themed river cruise from Louisville to Memphis aboard an authentic steamboat paddle-wheeler as part of a new, all-inclusive cruise package  offered by the American Queen Steamboat Company and Australian small ship cruise specialist, Cruise Traveller.

The ‘Music of the 50s and 60s’ river cruise package begins in Louisville, Kentucky, on August 22, 2021, and for a limited time, travellers can save up to US$1800 per couple if booked by September 30, 2020. Guests can also receive a bonus US$100 cruise credit per booking by downloading the new American Queen Steamboat Company’s 2021 online brochure via Cruise Traveller’s website.

After a free night’s accommodation in Louisville, Kentucky, guests will board the 417-passenger American Queen - a fully working, six-deck recreation of a classic, steam paddlewheeler - as it travels south along the Ohio and Mississippi rivers. While the steamboat has the appearance and opulence of the American Victorian era, it is also equipped with all the modern amenities. Onboard, guests will be transported back in time to the era of rock’n’roll, petticoats and turtlenecks, with music and onboard events celebrating the best of the 50s and 60s.

Highlights of the cruise include the birthplace of Abraham Lincoln at Brandenburg, the distillery-filled city and historical mecca of Owensboro and the musical metropolis of Memphis, home to the King of rock’n’roll, Elvis Presley. Known around the world as the birthplace of rock’n’roll and the home to the blues, Memphis is a music lover’s dream. Guests can also take a stroll down Beale Street to the rhythm of blues guitars.

The cruise ends in Memphis where a new, optional,  end-of cruise city stay package costing US$699 per person, twin-share, offers two nights at Memphis’ iconic and historic Peabody Hotel, including daily breakfast and where you can witness the famous Peabody Duck march, an authentic BBQ meal at the Blues City Café, an Elvis Graceland excursion and passes to the city’s top music tourist attractions.

The eight-night ‘Music of the 50s and 60s’  package includes one night’s accommodation pre-cruise, the seven-night river cruise, guided, hop-on-hop-off shore excursions, locally-inspired gourmet meals, wine and beer with dinners onboard and also gratuities onboard. The package begins on August 22, 2021, and fares start from US$2235 per person, twin share - a saving of US$300 per person. A riverview stateroom with open verandah is priced from US$3435 per person, twin share - a saving of US$900 per person. The savings are valid for bookings made by September 30, 2020. Guests can also receive a bonus US$100 cruise credit per booking by downloading the new American Queen Steamboat Company’s 2021 online brochure via Cruise Traveller’s website.

American Queen Steamboat Company’s new digital brochure for 2021 features a record 173 cruises on five of America’s most iconic rivers - The Mississippi, Ohio River, Tennessee River, Snake River and Columbia River. The 2021 season will feature the new American Countess as well as the American Queen, American Duchess and American Empress – all of which will offer an authentic and elegant American river cruise experience.

Consumers or travel agents can call the Australian representative for the American Queen Steamboat Company, Cruise Traveller, on 1300 680 374 or visit www.cruisetraveller.com.au/aqsc-australia where the 2021 brochure can also be downloaded.
