Double Glazing Demand Surges as WA Braces for 40°C Summer and Rising Power Bills

Climateframe says Perth homeowners are shifting focus to summer cooling performance amid cost-of-living pressures

PERTH, WESTERN AUSTRALIA – 26 November 2025 – As Western Australia braces for an intense summer with forecast temperatures climbing above 40°C, Perth homeowners are turning to Climateframe Double Glazing not for warmth, but to cool their homes and manage energy bills.

The shift comes as electricity costs continue to outpace inflation. According to The Guardian, Australian residential electricity prices have increased by 19 per cent over the past three years, compared to a 12 per cent rise in the Consumer Price Index. At the same time, the Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting multiple extreme heat events across the Perth metro area this summer, including back-to-back days exceeding 40°C, as reported by PerthNow.

“We’re seeing growing awareness that double glazing isn’t just for winter,” said Tony Hodgetts, Managing Director of Climateframe Double Glazing. “In Perth’s climate, the bigger issue is stopping heat from getting in. People want solutions that reduce the need for constant air-conditioning.”

Thermal Performance in Extreme Heat

Double glazing, which uses two panes of glass separated by a sealed air or gas-filled cavity, creates a thermal barrier that slows heat transfer. Thermal performance is further enhanced by the use of soft coat, low-e (low emissivity) glass, which reduces solar heat gain while preserving natural light.

This construction helps reduce the strain on air-conditioning systems during summer and improves the overall energy efficiency of the home.

The WA Government’s Energy Savings Quick Guide for Households encourages residents to consider upgrades like double glazing and sealing as part of summer preparation efforts.

Local Manufacturing and Increased Demand

Perth-based Climateframe Double Glazing manufactures double glazed uPVC and aluminium window and door systems from its facility in Gnangara. The company reports increased demand from homeowners across the metro area, particularly in the lead-up to summer.

“Retrofit enquiries are rising quickly,” said Hodgetts. “People are looking to make their homes more comfortable and affordable to run, and glazing is one of the first things they’re addressing.”

Broader Energy Efficiency Shift

Sustainability Victoria estimates that up to 40 per cent of a home’s energy loss occurs through windows, and double glazing can significantly reduce this when paired with other insulation and shading measures.

While window upgrades are not universally subsidised under state and federal energy schemes, double glazing is becoming a key element of household energy performance strategies alongside rooftop solar, smart thermostats, and heat pump systems.

Climateframe’s systems are designed to address both thermal efficiency and broader lifestyle factors, including reduced noise, enhanced security, and increased property value.
